Brush Up on Our Dentist's Expertise
Dr. Michael Tyler DDS
Dr. Michael Tyler was born in San Diego, and with the exception of time away for school, has called East County, home, for his entire life. Dr. Tyler graduated from West Hills high school in Santee and after attending college in South Dakota and Long Beach, he returned to complete his biology degree at San Diego State University. Dr. Tyler attended dental school at the University of the Pacific School of dentistry (or UOP, though now called Arthur A Dugoni School of Dentistry). The education he received at UOP taught him the value of comprehensive patient care and a gentle caring touch. This approach helped Dr. Tyler mold a philosophy of patient care that pays attention to the needs of the patient as a whole, instead of just a set of teeth. Dr. Tyler continues his education on the advances in all fields of dentistry so he can address more needs and minimize the need of patients to be referred to other clinicians. Since graduation in 2004, Dr. Tyler has worked locally and has established a reliable network of specialist to address your dental needs should that be required.

As part of his commitment to further his education, Dr. Tyler is a member of several dental associations and clubs devoted to the continued education of Dentist.

He is a member of:

Dr. Tyler and his wife Michelle were married October 2012 and reside here in El Cajon. They are the proud parents of a little girl, Mia, and her two younger twin brothers Brody and Tanner. When not at the office, Dr. Tyler enjoys the family time even if it means a lack of sleep (please excuse the bags under the eyes!) The family spends many weekends at their vacation spot in Palo Verde, CA where they enjoy the river during the warm months and hiking and ATV’s in the mountain trails during the cold months. When a good photo opportunity presents Dr. Tyler enjoys capturing the moment and you can see some examples of those shots at the office.

Kimberly Ibarra Registered Dental Hygienist
Kimberly Ibarra joins the Granite Hills Dental Team as a Registered Dental Hygienist beginning August 2024. A proud graduate of Southwestern College with an Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene, Kimberly brings fresh perspective and dedicated care to our practice.

Kimberly's journey to dental hygiene began in an unexpected place – behind the front desk of a dental office during her college years. What started as a job quickly blossomed into a passion as she observed the transformative impact of quality dental care on patients' lives and confidence. This experience sparked her dream of becoming a dental hygienist, where she could directly contribute to patients' oral health journeys.

Passionate about helping patients achieve both healthy and beautiful smiles, Kimberly prioritizes building meaningful relationships with everyone who sits in her chair. She creates a comfortable and safe environment during each visit, understanding that dental appointments can cause anxiety for many people.

When not at the office, Kimberly embraces life with enthusiasm through her love of travel, concert-going, and fitness. Her athletic background includes an impressive 15 years of dance training from early childhood through high school, with hip-hop remaining her favorite style. This dedication to mastering complex movements translates to the precision and dexterity she brings to her dental practice.

Guided by her personal motto, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do," Kimberly approaches each day with passion and purpose. Her dream is to explore as many countries as possible throughout her lifetime, drawing inspiration from diverse cultures and experiences. After a day caring for patients, you might find her enjoying her favorite Italian or Mexican cuisines – culinary traditions she deeply appreciates.

Kimberly looks forward to meeting you at your next appointment and contributing to your dental health journey at Granite Hills Dental Team.Add to Conversation

FAQ

Questions
How often should I visit the dentist?

It is recommended to visit the dentist for a regular check-up and cleaning every six months. However, your dentist may suggest more frequent visits based on your individual oral health needs.

What should I do if I have a toothache?

If you experience a toothache, rinse your mouth with warm water and use dental floss to remove any food particles stuck between your teeth. If the pain persists, contact your dentist for an appointment as soon as possible. You can also take over-the-counter pain medication to help alleviate discomfort until you can see your dentist.

How can I prevent cavities?

To prevent cavities, brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and limit sugary and acidic foods and beverages. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are also essential for maintaining good oral health.

What are the signs of gum disease?

Signs of gum disease include red, swollen, or tender gums, bleeding while brushing or flossing, persistent bad breath, receding gums, and loose or shifting teeth. If you notice any of these symptoms, schedule an appointment with your dentist.

What payment options do you accept?

We accept most major dental insurance plans, as well as cash, credit cards, and financing options through third-party providers. Please contact our office for more information on specific payment options and to verify your insurance coverage.

What should I do in a dental emergency?

In case of a dental emergency, such as a knocked-out tooth, severe toothache, or broken dental appliance, contact our office immediately. We reserve time in our daily schedule for emergency appointments and will provide you with instructions on how to handle your situation until you can see the dentist.

Are dental X-rays safe?

Yes, modern dental X-rays are safe. The amount of radiation exposure from a dental X-ray is minimal, and dentists take precautions to minimize exposure by using lead aprons and collars. X-rays are an essential diagnostic tool for detecting dental issues that may not be visible during a regular exam.
